Woman enjoying Banza pizza

FAQ

One way to evaluate if a food causes blood sugar spikes is to look at its glycemic index (GI). Low GI foods are digested and absorbed more gradually, helping avoid rapid spikes and crashes in blood sugar and energy levels.

Banza Pasta varieties are considered low glycemic index foods*, with scores of 36 (Chickpea Pasta) and 42 (Brown Rice Pasta) and 54 (Wheat Protein Pasta).

A 2025 meta-analysis found that when study participants consumed chickpeas (vs. carbohydrate-matched controls) their post-meal glucose was lower. The protein and fiber content of chickpeas may contribute to this blood glucose effect while helping individuals feel fuller longer.

That said, individual responses can vary and we always recommend checking with your doctor or dietitian if you have any questions about how Banza fits into your dietary needs.
