The limited-edition release pairs TALEA’s approach to great beer with Banza’s gluten free roots, and a touch of chickpea, naturally
NEW YORK, October 15, 2026 - Banza and TALEA Beer Co. today announced the release of two limited-edition gluten-free beers created in the spirit of making Oktoberfest a celebration for everyone. ELBOW ROOM IPA, a classic IPA brewed with sorghum and citra hops, and LEMON BASIL BANZA, a citrusy, herbal gluten-free ale with chickpeas, were brewed at TALEA's flagship Williamsburg brewery. The collaboration pairs TALEA's approachable take on craft beer with Banza's unexpected approach of bringing chickpeas to people’s favorite foods and drinks.
The beer will debut with an Oktoberfest launch celebration on Thursday, October 15, at TALEA's taprooms on draft and in cans across New York City while supplies last.
The partnership brings together two brands with a natural overlap among food-forward New Yorkers. TALEA is known for playful reinventions of beer styles and welcoming taprooms designed to bring a wider audience into craft beer. Banza has built its brand by reimagining familiar favorites through the nutrition and versatility of chickpeas. Both share a belief that expanding choice should never mean lowering the bar on taste.
The collaboration is especially relevant as an estimated 25% to 33% of the U.S. population is actively avoiding gluten, while gluten-free beer options represent far less than 1% of the market.
ELBOW ROOM is a gluten-free IPA that is bright and crisp with a hint of citrusy bitterness. In addition to this everyday beer, TALEA will feature a gluten-free LEMON BASIL BANZA beer on tap to celebrate the unexpected signature of the collaboration and a playful extension of Banza's mission to inspire people to eat more chickpeas and other beans.
”We are so proud to partner with TALEA, a beloved brewery here in NY, on their first ever gluten free beer,” said Brian Rudolph, co-founder and CEO of Banza. “As someone with food allergies, it can be hard to find fun, interesting and delicious beer options. That chickpeas could play a role in the beer makes it even better.”
Limited releases are part of the fun of brewery culture: a chance to discover new flavors, rethink familiar styles and try something that may only be available for a short time. People who avoid gluten often have fewer opportunities to take part in that experience. Banza and TALEA created ELBOW ROOM to offer something different: a bright, hoppy India Pale Ale brewed with sorghum instead of barley, designed to stand on its own, never as a compromise.
"Limited releases are one of the best parts of craft beer, but people who avoid gluten don’t always get the same chance to try something new," said Tara Hankinson and LeAnn Darland, co-founders and co-CEOs of TALEA Beer Co. "Banza was a natural partner because we share a belief that an alternative only works when it is delicious. These beers are celebratory, approachable and distinctly TALEA, with a small, unexpected contribution from chickpeas that makes the collaboration feel special."
ELBOW ROOM and LEMON BASIL BANZA will be available beginning October 15 on at all TALEA taprooms while supplies last. For taproom locations and hours, visit taleabeer.com/pages/visit-us. Must be 21 or older. Please enjoy responsibly.
